How to Retain length for 4c Natural Hair

  • 1. Keep your scalp clean:
  • shampoo your hair at lease once or twice a month and in section. Since 4c natural hair shrinks a lot and tangles easily , it is good to wash it in 4-12 sections depending on the length of your length.
  • 2. Trim your hair as needed

    Don’t have a schedule to when to trim your hair but instead trim your hair as needed.

    3. Deep condition every time you wash

    It is good to deep condition hair at least twice a month. Over your hair with a plastic cap over your hair and sit under a warm dryer for 15-25 minutes.

    4. Avoid using heat

    Twists, buns, braids are some examples of hair style you can do to avoid using heat.

    5. Use the LCO/LOC/LC method

    LCO method is Liquid, cream, oil.

    LOC method is liquid, oil, cream.

    LC method is liquid, cream.

    4c natural hair is dry and needs consistent moisture. So it is good to moisturize your hair using these method.

    6. Less manipulation

    Leave your hair alone. 4c Hair is dry and breaks easily. The more you manipulate your hair, the more your hair breaks and that will make it difficult to maintain length.

    7. Maintain a protein and moisture balance

    Too much of everything is bad. So make sure to do some protein treatment to give your hair some balance or you can use a protein balance hair mask like Mielle organic.

    8. Keep your hair in stretch styles

    Twist out, braid outs, Bantu nots are good styles when you want to wear your hair out. Stretched styles are good for retaining length. These styles from tangling and knotting.

    9. Be patient

    Your Hair is not going to grow overnight. Give it time. Remember that hair grows 1/2 inch a month 6 inches a year.

    10. Take care of yourself inside out

    Maintain a balance diet. Drink plenty of water. If you do not take in essential nutrients, your hair will not flourish.
